Quality Assurance Forms

To obtain details of the QA that RCM providers will be undertaking between demonstrations, TRL has developed forms each technology type that will need to be completed by the RCM providers for each technology.

The forms cover QA and related topics and include questions on:

  • Limitations on data collection (day/night, weather etc.)
  • Introduction of additional vehicles/devices (where applicable)
  • Calibration and ensuring consistency (both over time and between devices)
  • Identification of invalid confidence data (e.g. lower trafficked roads for telematics)

Please download and complete the corresponding technology type form(s). The completed forms will need to be provided alongside the data submission for each technology.

TRL will review the text in the completed forms and followup with the corresponding RCM provider if additional detail or clarification is required. Recommendations (where applicable) will be provided to the corresponding RCM provider and DfT.

The technology groupings

TypeDescriptionNotesQuality Assurance Form
A: Application-based mobile technologiesThe use of data collection devices, such as mobile phones running applications, but not specifically installed for RCM.Typically obtained via remote access to data collected by applications running on mobile phones, or other similar devices.Download
E: Engineers’ inspectionsDriven or walked engineers’ inspections.Typically obtained via measurement of condition using dedicated walked or driven engineers’ inspections.Download
M: Dedicated mobile technologiesIndividual, mobile, portable data collection devices, typically installed in a vehicle on a temporary or permanent basis specifically for the collection of RCM data.Typically deploying small-scale image collection, such as mobile phone or dash-cam technologies supported by a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), running bespoke applications. Collection is managed/controlled by data collector operatives, or operatives trained in the use of the system.Download
O: Other technologiesData collected using data collection devices not able to be described by one of the other types listed. This can include technologies such as remote sensing, aerial, satellite inspections.Download
S: Dedicated data collection vehiclesIndividual vehicles either permanently or temporarily equipped with devices whose primary function is the collection of RCM data.Typically deploying dedicated distance measurement devices and inertial GNSS to provide high locational accuracy, and industrial image, laser profile/LiDAR or other dedicated measurement devices.Download
V: Vehicle telematicsThe use of data collection devices that take the form of vehicle telematics data (provided via instrumentation not specifically installed for RCM).Typically obtained via remote access to vehicle on-board telemetry data.Download
